Fall Wardrobe Essentials

Let’s be honest, for most, it is hard to stay on top of the latest trends and to interpret old styles that become re-invented over and over. For me, I LOVE fashion (obviously lol.) and I enjoy staying on top of what’s new with fashion every season. However, that doesn’t mean I fall in love with every trend or participate in it because it’s the “new” thing.

There are many seasonal trends that I fall in love with immediately. If I do, well, you better bet I’ll be interpreting it into my closet in some way. Why? Because I like feeling modern, looking cohesive and put together AND it is a part of who I am! The takeaway here, stay true to you. That goes for fashion, hobbies, work and every aspect of your life. This is how I engage with my clients and help build their style esthetique. It must reflect their personality and suit their lifestyle!

Fall is essentially the beginning of the “calendar year” for fashion. It is the most exciting time for us fashion freaks and I love watching to see what will be new and what designers have done with classics. That’s the key. If you are a person who gravitates towards classics, great! I am too! However, every so often designers will interpret classics in new ways and that’s when we’ll start to see a shift in the cuts of classics changing and becoming the “new normal”. For example, the boyfriend blazer. A more relaxed style blazer that is modern and fresh. Nothing wrong a good old classic blazer, but next to someone who’s paired a boyfriend blazer correctly - you won’t make as much of a statement.

Now, what I am going to be recommending to my clients this fall. Want to stay current, but yet classic? That is what this post is all about!

The Coatigan

Where do I begin with these! It’s not technically a cardigan or a coat but somewhere in the middle! When we are in transitional weather there is nothing better than something that will keep you warm but yet has a modern twist. This one is beautifully cut and in a classic style leaving you with a versatile piece that you will have for years to come.

Chambray Shirt

This shirt is a must have in everyone’s wardrobe. This one in particular is boyfriend cut, relaxed and perfectly soft. Why I like this style compared to the traditional denim shirt? Because, its soft, fabric is pliable and it falls so beautifully. Pair this with white denim, leather leggings, black denim, open with t-shirts, over a knit dress, tie it at the bottom - really, the options are endless! Classic, yet modern.

Ankle Boot

There are SO many styles of ankle boots out there! It can be overwhelming to choose. But I say if you are going to pick one that makes a statement, let it be in this beautiful rich tan color. This one in particular is shorter on the ankle, has a cut out that will further lengthen your leg line and have all heads turning. Steve Madden is one of my favorite shoe brands that is affordable and decent quality. Also, details - let’s not be boring and find something with interesting details, after all that’s what we’re trying to achieve isn’t it?

Converse Ankle Socks

One of the biggest reasons people steer clear of these type of booties is because they don’t know what socks to wear. Linked my favorite style out there. These stay on your feet and are good quality. I find mine at winners!

Good Quality Denim

If there was ever a staple in your wardrobe that you need to have, it is a good pair(s) of denim. I am known to be extremely picky with my denim. Designer denim always wins, but there are a couple of affordable options that I do recommend if you just can’t swing it. Always have a classic dark wash that is clean, a more casual lighter denim that is distressed if you’re into it. A few tips - pay attention to the rise, pocket placement and wash. Depending on your body type, you may want to steer clear of certain washes. ALWAYS have a black pair of denim too!

Straight cut vs. boot cut vs. flare vs. skinny depends on your shape and preference. Know your shape and try on as many jeans as possible. It’s the only way to know. Here are a few of my favorite styles.

All the Suede

Texture, texture, texture. If you’re looking to amp up your wardrobe and say “hello fall”, you need suede. You can achieve this with suede booties OR buy a couple of wardrobe staples in this texture and you’ll make any outfit interesting. Here are a few of my favorite styles out for the season.

I LOVE cardigans. Why? Because you can wear them all year long. They are perfect for transitional weather because you just take them off when the weather warms up in the afternoon. Specifically, I prefer long line cardigans compared to shorter styles. They elongate, create length and can be worn by all body types! Shorter lengths are trickier because you need to keep in mind where the length is hitting you. Many stop at the hip line and for women, that can often be where we don’t want the eye to stop. Also pay attention to the weight of the cardigan relative to your size. Bell sleeves can also be trouble some. General rule of thumb, the slimmer the cut the more classic the look! Otherwise, have fun and enjoy these styles I’ve found for you.

Leather (or the like) Jacket

Ok, the most classic piece you could ever own and is PERFECT for fall is a leather (or vegan leather) jacket. You choose your price point, but there is nothing more beautiful than a beautifully cut leather jacket. It goes with almost everything, is extremely versatile and sure makes a statement. Specifically, I love styling a leather jacket with denim or over a dress with white runners. The juxtaposition of the luxurious and casual vibes together is what makes the look current.

When choosing your leather jacket, be sure to be comfortable in the feel of the leather (or pleather, or the like). Make sure the cut is exactly right. Where is it hitting you? At the hips? At the waist? Slightly cropped? Pay attention to the zippers, sleeves and lapel. Many of the details can add bulk depending on your shape or emphasize areas that you may want to minimize. Here are a few of my favorite styles.

Fall is coming! I sure hope this most got you inspired to take a look at your wardrobe and see if you can add some of my recommended fall staples. Happy Shopping!
